A lot of people ask us do you have silencers. Other people ask us do you have suppressors? We commonly get asked explain the differences between the two.
Lets take a look at the difference between the two.
Hiram Percy Maxim, invented the suppressor, he referred to it as the ‘Maxim Silencer’ in his patent and marketing materials. As a result, the word Silencer caught on quickly – and is now used as the legal definition in both state and federal regulations, as well as on all ATF forms.
Now most people know that there is no such thing as a true silencer, so the purists refer to them as suppressors. Suppressors are more technically correct since these devices are capable of reducing/suppressing the sound from a firearm and not truly silencing it.
If you want a difference between the terms, think of it like this:
Silencer – The legal definition for a firearm suppression device
Suppressor – The technical definition for a firearm suppression device
So the difference between a silencer and a suppressor is, nothing. You can call is either one and technically you are correct.
