The AR-15 has a lot of misconceptions when it comes to being a member of the rifle family. One of the biggest reasons is because the physical look of the AR-15 looks like a military style gun. However they function in a completely different way. Below is a list of facts about the AR-15 that you should know about.

  • The AR-15 has amazing accuracy, reliability, ruggedness and versatility to serve hunters and sport enthusiasts.
  • The AR-15 has been referred to as the “Modern Sporting Rifle.” They have become one of the most popular firearms being sold.
  • Did you know the term AR-15 does not stand for “Assault Rifle” or “Automatic Rifle.” AR-15 stands for ArmaLite refile, a company that developed it in 1950.
  • AR-15-style rifles are no more powerful than other hunting rifles of the same caliber and in most cases are chambered in calibers less powerful than common big-game hunting cartridges like the 30-06 Springfield and .300 Win. Mag.
  • The AR-15 platform is modular. Owners like being able to affix different “uppers” (the barrel and chamber) to the “lower” (the grip, stock).
  • Anyone can in the 50 states can purchase an AR-15, provided they pass the mandatory FBI background check.
